Organization -- Finally! (And a Giveaway from Blue Sky!)
The trouble with me + planning is that I always start out really gung-ho, and then my efforts at timely organization seem to fall by the wayside after a few days of effort. I think it's because I DO begin so forcefully that I can't possibly keep up with my own momentum. I become all bluster and no follow-through. All talk and no action. All hope and no reality.
But on my horizon, there are a few things that are having the tendency to FREAK me out about my lack of organization:
1. We are having our entire home re-floored this week.
2. I want to take two family road trips between now and September.
3. Mia starts Kindergarten next month.
4. Baby Boy is due in October.
5. My house is a mess.
6. I forget what else, but let me assure you, there is lots of 'else'.
The only thing I've done in preparation for any of this is to compile detailed lists in my head, jot down a reminder or two on soon-to-be-lost scraps of paper, and wring my hands helplessly together.
Let's face it: I'm terrible at organizing our family's life at this point in the game. I'm keeping us afloat, but only because I'm displacing the waters by sheer luck. And I keep waiting for those waters to float me away, whilst I forget everything that needs to be done.
But here's the silver lining: somebody has thrown me a life-raft.
The kind folks behind the Blue Sky Home Series have sent me a sampling of their newest line of dated organizing products, and for the past month, I've been saved.
My favorite product in their lineup is the 8x10 weekly/monthly planner. It's slim and sturdy, with plenty of room for detailing what our weeks will look like...
and keeping all of my lists in one place...
plus it lays flat on my desk -- next to me at all times -- so I can immediately add to its calendar or remind myself of the day's events.
I know -- it's just a calendar, really. And couldn't a regular wall or desk calendar do the same thing? Probably. But I've never been too enamored with wall calendars for ease of use, and desk calendars either seem to take up my entire workspace, or become messy and ripped over time. Plus, the Blue Sky planner is pretty. Really pretty. They've teamed up with Susy Jack Contemporary Paper to make a line of products that are eye catching but not flashy. Beautiful, but not obtrusive. They're simple and clean and lovely -- perfect for keeping me company at all times.
But the coolest part about this planner is that its calendar begins in July, not January. Because whose busy year actually begins in January? I need a calendar that begins when I do -- which, this year, is right now. I don't have to wait for a new supply of January-starting products to line the shelves before getting myself organized.
Plus, there's a giant stack of lined note pages in the back of the planner -- fabulous, because I don't want to carry a notepad and a calendar to my few meetings, but I want to have plenty of space to write.
And the tabs for each month make me happy.
Also nice, but not quite as useful to me as the planner, are the grocery list, mousepad, and door notes. The door notes are a cute idea, but I just can't get past the kitschy-ness of the product and the extra clutter they would add to my entryway. I know a few teenagers that might benefit from it, though...
The grocery list has come in handy for making sure I take note of what I need to buy as soon as I run out -- it clings nicely to the fridge with strong magnets -- but I don't necessarily love being trapped into only a few lines for each category. Still, I can definitely see the appeal for many busy moms.

Gift Card Winners
From all the bustle of Christmas comings and goings, I almost forgot to draw winners for my blog-birthday giveaway!
But only almost.
And I completely decided against a cute, daughter-announced video, so as to spare my innocent readers' eyes the torture of seeing my messy house. I wouldn't do that to you all. Neither will I be so kind as to post little pictures of Random.org's number generator.
What I will do? Announce the winners:
The first Target gift card will go to the lovely Mrs. Jones, one of my longest blog supporters (also a distant relative of sorts....) and the one who makes me jealous when she talks about taking her beautiful babies to the beach in, like, January, and they all wear shorts. No Tantrums Here (Only Giveaways...)
I'm two years old today. That is, This Heavenly Life is two years old today.

And this is something crazy like post number 645, which blows my mind -- MAN do I spit out a lot of words. (Seriously. How do you keep up?)
I'm about to spit out a few more --
In the bottom of my tiny desk drawer, shoved between the pages of the manual to my quite bedraggled-looking digital camera, under an electric blue mouse pad which has never been used, below a pile of wooden chess pieces, rested upon by a lone jingle bell (from where the bell came, I do not know), beside a handheld stapler that has been out of staples since 2002, near a broken red crayon from Chuck E. Cheese, in front of a lime green, bejeweled hair barrette, behind the burned dvd of Lauren's Birth, tangled in an anonymous hardware power cord --
-- there are two $15 Target gift cards. (From where the cards came, I also do not know.)
And to celebrate my entrance into the world of the Terrible Twos, I'd like to give them away -- to you!
(Hurry and take them before I change my mind. Heaven only knows how they could have languished there so long without me devaluing them in the flashiest of flashes.*)

Hotter Shoes Giveaway!
The truth about shoe shopping is that I dread it. I have an image tucked away like a mirage of the exact specimens I'd like, and I slump from store to store, gathering disappointments at each stop. And when I do settle for something halfway presentable to my mind's eye, they end up killing my feet: blisters, pinched toes, sore heels -- my feet are tricky to please.
Which is why I was thrilled with the opportunity to review a pair of Hotter Comfort Concept Shoes. I wouldn't be tempted to write a gushing post filled with all the ways these shoes were perfect, because, in my experience, no shoe is perfect. I was bound to find some area worthy of critique, and that would lend a nice air of credibility to my review; something I'm determined to do with any review I undertake.
Since I've been on the hunt for an awesome pair of boots (something that fits my personality more than the leprechaun-kick boots did...) for over a year now, I chose Hotter's Western Boots in Winter Taupe suede. Days after my order was placed, the boots landed on my doorstep, and...
I squealed. I sighed. I caressed. These boots are gorgeous, my friends. But knowing my tendency to love the look and hate the feel, I eased into them carefully.
And I haven't taken them off since.
It's been over 6 weeks, and these boots have graced my feet almost daily. Yes, graced. These are the only non-athletic shoes I've ever worn that felt immediately broken-in within moments of wearing them for the first time. After walking an entire morning (the FIRST time I wore them) at a local parade, they hadn't given me blisters or caused me to curse their name -- it was magic, I say.
At first, I worried that they were too big -- and I do think Hotter's shoes fit a little bigger than my usual size 9's -- but I soon discovered that I like a little extra room in my boots. (If I'd ordered lower-cut shoes, I think I would have needed an 8.5. But the boots were perfect with a little extra room.) I began to wonder if maybe I've just been buying my shoes too small for all of my life, but...no. These boots are more comfortable than anything I own despite the minuscule difference in size. They don't boast a super-cushiony sole or sherpa-lined interior, but there's something amazing about their comfort.
So much for not gushing over the perfection of these shoes, right?
I love my Hotter boots! I've already got my eye on another pair (or four) that I'd love to welcome into my home, and I'd love to help YOU welcome Hotter Shoes into your home as well!

Spring Fever Winners!
First, I'm so glad there were so many entries for this giveaway! I knew Sue's necklaces were beautiful but with your sweet comments to bolster her creativity, I'm sure she'll be inspired to keep on keepin' on. Maybe...just maybe...she'll finally become convinced to sell her beautiful work!
In a strange, lucky twist of fate, Jill is one of my closest friends in real life. (Jill: GET A BLOG, ALREADY!) Since she didn't say in her comment which necklace she liked best, I called her late last night to squeal and giggle with her about What are the CHANCES?! and also to have her choose her prize. (Since it was nearly 11PM, she was sure I was calling with big news....and her mind made the jump to big pregnancy news...but it was not to be. She had to settle for a necklace.) She chose Desert Lilac.
Now, this was where I started looking at my webcam, going Seriously? Who's IN there?! Because Stacey is my uncle's wife. She chose Oasis as one of her favorites, and since she was one of the only commenters who preferred that one, it was a match made in heaven. But...2 out of 3 winners being close to me in real life was starting to freak me out. I clicked the random number generator button again, with one eye closed, hoping for a truly random winner this time.
Whew! I wiped the sweat from my brow; I've never met Megan (Though I'd love to! Have you been to her wonderful blog? It's a must read, each and every post.). She chose Desert Sky as her favorite necklace.
Chelsea is super tall (so I hear on her wonderful blog, Roots and Rings), so out of the two necklaces she liked best, I awarded her with the longest one. And it's perfect for her because she's expecting her first baby! I don't know why that makes it perfect for her, but in my mind...it just worked.
Erin's choice was Mirage. (A popular choice with many commenters. I was surprised it took 5 tries to give it away!)
Congratulations, ladies! I had a blast reading through comments for this giveaway (perhaps because they told me nice things about myself...?) and even more fun seeing who won. I was seriously smiling the whole time, anxious and excited to see the winners. So thank you all for playing along with me!

Spring Fever -- It's A Giveaway!
THERE ARE ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT IN FEBRUARY!!!
One of these lovely pieces of jewelry, handmade by my brilliant and crafty mother-in-law, Sue. (Only, don't blame her for the cheesy product names...those are all my fault. It turns out I can't stop once I've begun naming things, especially if I happen upon a theme. These necklaces spoke to me about sparkling sand, desert-blue skies, and hot breezes: everything a snowbird wants, right? Let's call this The Snowbird Collection!) I keep trying to talk her in to setting up an Etsy shop or even a booth at a craft show, but she's adamant: this is just a fun hobby.
Forgive my yelling, but I'm a little excited. Spring can't come fast enough, and March is just the month to get my hopes all up for sunshine, sprouting plant-life, and warmer temperatures. Oh, and less dry skin. March has a lot riding on it's arrival.
To celebrate, I decided a fun giveaway would help usher Spring into our world and kick February right on out.

The Winner!
Whew! I tell you, I was so excited for this week to be finished so I could see who the winner was going to be in my blogiversary giveaway. I'm glad so many of you got a chance to enter! And I'll be happy to announce the winner shortly.

Happy Blogiversary To You! (It's A Giveaway!)
Once upon a time, there was a housewife named Sarah. She was a jolly, happy soul, but wished to find an outlet for her multitudinous, brain-cluttering thoughts. Her poor, handsome husband tried to listen to all she said, but grew weary from the sheer volume of words she emitted. She thought about starting a journal, but being something of a lazy-bones, Sarah soon left the journal dusty and forgotten. She tried to talk to friends, but realized that she never had quite enough time with them to satisfy her talkative tooth. Thinking an artistic solution may be the best route to take, she even attempted to join an orchestra to reacquaint herself with her old love, the violin. If only she were a good enough violinist, this blog might never have been born.
Lucky for us all, she wasn't talented enough, and due to the aforementioned laziness, neither did she want to embark upon lessons to improve her musical ability. So she sat down one long winter afternoon -- one year ago today, to be exact -- and banged out some navel-gazing words. She released them to the internets, and she hasn't been the same since.
She told embarrassing stories about herself (more than once). She expressed herself in words that had sat dormant inside her heart for far too long. She tried to be funny. She made friends, both across the country and across the world, and asked for advice when she came up against insurmountable obstacles. She admitted things. She fawned over her gorgeous daughters, bragging about their undeniable perfection while admitting to their frustrating tendencies. She realized that she loves to write, and began to wonder how she'd not self-imploded long ago from a lack of writing. She dabbled in poetry. She whined. She joined carnivals. She wrote and wrote and wrote, and before she knew it, one entire YEAR had passed: Sarah The Lazy-Bones had become Sarah The Heavenly.
And bless your hearts, you READ what she wrote, never failing to uplift her or make her laugh, always ready with words of encouragement and friendship.
