Some Quickety Quick Takes for July

1.  A new blog friend, Julie, recently got some terrible news about her daughter, Taylor.  At her 18-month check-up, the doctor found a mass in her abdomen which turned out to be an inoperable spinal tumor.  There's a facebook page set up for her --  Praying for Taylor -- and if you've got a minute to add your prayers and thoughts (or donations), I know they'd appreciate it.

On top of Taylor's new medical concerns and treatments, Julie delivered a sweet baby boy by (horrific) emergency c-section last week, the day before Taylor's first chemo treatment.  The baby is still in the NICU, waiting to be held for the first time.  I just can't imagine shouldering this kind of burden, and I want to shower Julie with love right now.  Let's pray, shall we?

2.  Right now, our house is clean, organized, and calm.  Except for the clean part.  And the calm.  But organized!  We've GOT THAT!  Because things are going in boxes with labels.  The house closing is in two weeks (ack!), and I figure that I've got to get started little by little or I'll be frantic trying to get us out of here in time.  Which makes me think Oh, gosh -- we won't be living HERE anymore.  Which makes me start to cry.  Packing is doing weird things to my emotions.

Also, I know nothing about packing for a move.  Like, I'm sure there are some things I should keep unpacked until the very end, but I can't seem to think what those things would be...any tips?

3.  One thing we definitely aren't packing yet?  Landon's frying pan.

It's mandatory in his daily play schedule, even more so than the Barbie cars.

4.  And we won't pack the camera.  Because then, what would Landon race towards at baby-warp-speed?  I really think he'd offer me his binkie in return for sole custody of the camera lens.

5.  Dripping watermelon on the front porch steps.  This is where it's at for a long summer day.

6.  The cat thinks so, too.  (And I think this photo might be on my list of ALL TIME favorites. Right?)

7.  Yesterday, Yahoo ran a story about a British man who, irritated with his girlfriend's attraction to Fifty Shades of Grey, assaulted her with a bottle of 'A1' Steak Sauce.  While the story was odd and comical (probably not for the sauced girlfriend), it was the comments at the bottom of the page that had me rolling.  Here are a few of my favorites:

There's really nothing like a pun to make me happy.

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one laughing! Yahoo commenters are usually hilarious but this was special ;)

  2. Leave the bathroom stuff and essential kitchen items for last :) Label like crazy so you know what's in what boxes - and put on the boxes exactly what room it needs to go into... and priority. We've moved a few times ;) Packing is so not my favorite thing... hang in there mama!

OH! And when it gets closer, like a week, give the kids each two boxes. One for things to keep out to play with during the move. The other for things they are looking forward to opening up at the new house, old favorites. Make sure those boxes stay close, and are first to come off the moving truck or out of the car when you first get to the new house :)

    1. EXCELLENT advice! Thanks! I'm also thinking that I'll pack us a suitcase or two so we don't have to search different boxes for pajamas, clothes, towels, toys, etc. So even if we can't find a box, the suitcase with a few for-now items will hold us for a few days.

  5. Those puns at the end had me laughing out loud! Too funny! Good luck with the move! We too are in the middle of a move and everything is in boxes. I'm trying to mentally have a game plan for packing but it's making me nervous...and sad to be leaving our house too! Happy packing!

    1. It's the mental game-plan that's psyching me out, Lori! Once I get underway, I feel fine, but it's all the overthinking that's making me feel out-of-control. Which is bad, because I NEED to think this through...

I'm glad you understand my wackiness!

    1. Well, I can't actually remember if I've mentioned it yet, officially. On FB, yes; on blog? Not sure... Anyway, I appreciate the sentiment! We're excited :)

  7. Oh goodness, definitely praying for Julie and her family.

Love the watermelon shots! I'll second Corinne's comment about essential bathroom and kitchen stuff. And remember: you can always pack the boxes but keep them unsealed until it's right before moving day, in case you need to dig something out.

P.S. Of course, kitchen stuff can be stuffed away if you're just planning on eating Chick-Fil-A until you've moved into the new place and unpacked. That would TOTALLY be how I did it ;)

    1. OMNOM CHICK-FIL-A. Yes, this is a GOOD idea :) I've made a point of keeping some paper goods in the kitchen cabinets for after all of our dishes are packed. I think fast-food will be CRAZY up in here :)

  8. Small world - Julie and her husband attended the same Bible college I did and live in the same town. I don't know her personally but have many mutual friends and have been praying for them constantly! Everytime I look at pictures of Taylor I see my Sophia's face, and it breaks my heart!

    That watermelon picture is PRICELESS!

And those puns? Thanks for a good laugh :) Happy Friday!!

    1. When I heard where Julie was from, I thought of you! I couldn't remember if I was right on the name of your town, though. Heartbreaking all around :(

      Happy Friday, Amy!

  9. After I finished laughing (excellent puns!), I had to pray. There are no words. What a lot to go through.

Moving in town is much easier than across state. Label - yes! But also think of the things that are easier to just move in laundry baskets (linen closet). Some movers will happily leave clothes in the drawers (but nothing breakable). Corinne's advise is right on. My girls each had one special box - they got to decorate them with markers which allowed me to pack too! The boxes can become overwhelming really easily.

Oh, and buy paper plates. PBJs and apples are perfect for moving days.

Hmm...And how did that make you FEEL?
