Oh, The Resolutions I Could Have

I did such a horrible job of following through with my New Year's Resolutions last year, that I'm pretty much foregoing the whole thing this year. If I don't promise anything, I can't fail! EVERYBODY WINS! Here, though, is what I should resolve to accomplish in 2010, but will just hope for the best instead:

1) Do a better job keeping up with house cleaning. Some sort of daily/weekly/monthly schedule would be perfect, if I had someone to boss me around a little and force it to happen. Justin is not eligible for this exciting position, though.

2) Moisturize after every shower. Itchy, dry skin is nobody's friend.

3) Plan healthier, cheaper meals. Pasta alla Vodka should not be on our weekly rotation.

4) Stop procrastinating. If I see something that needs to be done, I should DO IT NOW rather than waiting until later. Maybe that'll be this year's motto. I'll think about a yearly motto later...

5) Do dishes every night. (We tried this last year, and got bored sometime in February. There's nowhere to go but up, right?) Entice hubby into helping; use seductive measures if necessary.

6) Do at least ONE full load of laundry a day, including putting clothes away. Tackle the hand-wash-only items which have been sitting in the hamper all year.

7) Do sit-ups 3-5 times per week. (More on that later this week.)

8) Floss daily. This way I can tell the truth at the dentist's office.

9) Write more. Write better.

10) Turn the computer off by 10 PM, five nights per week. Go directly to bed. Do not pass TV. Do not collect midnight snack.

I'm thinking number 2 would be my best bet if I were actually promising anything to myself. What do you think? Do you do resolutions?

  1. I don't do resolutions either - but those are pretty good!!

So I tried this "healthy, cheap" soup last night before bed. The taste test made me angry. It's not good. Packed it for lunch anyways. Hopefully I can be an adult and just eat it.

  2. "Entice my husband to help. Use seductive measures if necessary." -- HA! Love it! :)

  3. This could be my list too! Especially the laundry thing... Oh man, the laundry pile is like a living, breathing enemy in my house.

I've been quite gung-ho about New Year's resolutions in the past, but this year I think I'm going to approach them very loosely. I'm all about key words this year: Love. Patience. (As much) Calm (as possible) :D

  4. I don't do resolutions because I can never keep them and then I've just created one more thing for me to feel guilty/worried about. Your list is great though, and if I were going to make one for myself it would probably look about the same!

As for healthy, cheap meals, my sister-in-law recently wrote an article about how to eat organically on a food stamp budget. I know organic doesn't *always* mean healthy, but she's a great cook and she's got some good ideas. Do you want me to send you the link?

  5. Yeah, I was too lazy to even create a list of things I should resolve to do. But your list is great! Practical and funny! I could probably comment on every one, but I'll restrain myself to just two.

I find that moisturizing is made easy if I have a pump lotion right next to the shower. I have to apply it before I leave the bathroom. Also, I find it's really only necessary in the winter. In the summer it just makes me sweat more. Certainly you can keep a resolution you only have to do for half the year!

And I totally have hand-wash-only items sitting around. Do you have a not-too-old washer? (I don't.) Sometimes they have a hand wash or delicate cycle you might be able to try.

  6. Lenae - I like your keyword idea...I'll have to work them into my motto :)

Emily - I'd love the link, please!

Elizabeth - Yeah, I think I'll be OK without such strict moisturization in the summer. This is definitely the best kind of resolution (if I were *making* it I mean ;). And I have a delicate cycle, but I'm not sure about it...maybe I'll give it a go with some sturdier looking items.

  7. Funny! I know what you're saying, which is why I'm trying to set the bar pretty low with my resolutions! If you changed #9, for example, to "write more better," you'd have nowhere to go but up! ;)

Also, just thought you should know I hate situps and flossing!

  8. Sit ups are overrated! I'm not a fan. Healthier, cheaper meals sounds like a great plan! I'm sure that they will all taste fantastic as well, right? If you come up with any great ideas, I think you should share!

  9. I didn't do any resolutions this year, but the dishes thing. That would be good. We're so bad at that.

    Good luck.

  10. That 'write more' resolution sounds good to me! You should just write all the time, as far as I'm concerned!

Hmm...And how did that make you FEEL?
